Used as a bowl, cup and/or spoon, it was often the only dining item allowed for a traveler on land or sea. Additionally, it was the "Birth to Earth" cup for a Scotsman, often presented to a baby on his christening by a favorite uncle or family friend, and buried with the owner upon his demise.
